LEPT Specializations: Alignment and Preparation

Your specialization is usually mapped from your teacher-education degree, curriculum, and transcript. Confirm the PRC path first, then prepare for the subject assigned to your application.

Who Takes a Specialization Subject?

The current LEPT program assigns a specialization subject to Elementary examinees with specialization and to Secondary examinees. In both tracks, Specialization is 40% of the weighted result. Regular Elementary examinees follow a separate two-subject 40/60 program.

An applicant generally does not select a field as a free-form preference. PRC evaluates the degree and curriculum, including the transcript, against the PRC-CHED alignment rules. A limited choice applies only where the published guidance specifically provides one.

How PRC-CHED Alignment Works

These examples summarize applicant paths explicitly discussed in the July 2025 PRC guidance. They are not a substitute for PRC's evaluation of your own credentials.

Regular Elementary

BEEd applicants under the regular Elementary path take General Education and Professional Education. The current program does not assign this track a specialization paper.

Elementary specialization paths

Current BSNEd and BECEd applicants, along with specified old-curriculum and graduate applicants, take the specialization subject identified by the PRC-CHED alignment guidance after credential evaluation.

Current PE and arts curricula

BPEd applicants take Physical Education (PE), while BCAEd applicants take Culture and Arts Education (CAE). These paths follow the applicant's degree rather than an open preference.

Old BSEd Major in MAPEH

The PRC guidance allows applicants under this old curriculum to choose either Physical Education (PE) or Culture and Arts Education (CAE), rather than an integrated MAPEH specialization paper.

Technology teacher-education paths

BTLEd and BTVTEd applicants follow the subjects specified for their curriculum. The guidance identifies AFA, Home Economics, ICT, Industrial Arts, and TVTEd pathways with curriculum-specific rules.

Example Specialization Families

This is an orientation list, not a complete eligibility table. A familiar field name does not establish that an applicant may register under it; the applicable degree and curriculum rule still controls.

Language and humanities

Examples include English, Filipino, Social Studies, and Values Education.

Mathematics and sciences

Examples include Mathematics, Biological Sciences, and Physical Sciences.

Physical education and arts

Current alignment distinguishes PE and CAE according to the applicable curriculum rules.

Technology and livelihood

The applicable field depends on whether PRC evaluates the applicant under BTLEd, BTVTEd, or an older curriculum.

Confirm Your Track Before Reviewing

  1. 1

Review the PRC-CHED alignment guidance for your exact degree and curriculum.

  2. 2

Use the degree title, major, and relevant coursework shown on your transcript—not a preferred job opening—to identify the likely path.

  3. 3

Present the required credentials for PRC evaluation, especially when the guidance treats the path as a first-time application.

  4. 4

Confirm the subjects tagged to your application before buying a field-specific reviewer or building a study calendar.

Prepare for the Confirmed Field

Start with the official scope

Use the current PRC or Board-issued Table of Specifications when available, then map each official domain to your notes and practice set.

Audit your curriculum coverage

Compare the official domains with the courses on your transcript. Give more review time to domains that received limited coursework or have weak practice results.

Keep all three subjects active

For specialization tracks, rotate General Education, Professional Education, and field practice instead of postponing one section until the final weeks.

Verify changes at the source

PRC may update programs or alignment rules. Recheck official notices before application and again before finalizing your exam-week plan.

Official sources

Verify time-sensitive requirements, dates, and fees through the official pages below before acting.
